"Hi Linda,

I am so pleased to have received my first order from Painted Sky Fiber Mill.  You do a fabulous job!   I had a friend recommend your mill to me, and I am so happy they did.  From our visit to see your operation, recommendations you gave me on what to do with my llama fiber, and to the great care you took in processing my order and shipping it to us (even on your labeling on our finished product), at every step you have shown care and attention to detail.   I look forward to using my beautiful llama yarn in upcoming projects. Thank you to you, and everyone at Painted Sky! "

"It's been a couple of weeks since I received my fiber, and since then I've had it on my :to-do" list to write you and let you know how much I LOVE all of it! The yarn, batts, roving and the rug yarn (oh, that rug yarn is delicious!!!) are all lovely. And your meticulous packaging/labeling, along with attention to detail (labeling the partial skeins in each bag, for instance) did not go unappreciated.:) Thank you so much for taking so much pride in your work!"

"We just received our yarn from our spring shearing from Painted Sky Fiber Mill. We did something a bit different this year with our fleece and had Linda and her team get creative (they always are!) and over dye most of our fleece with brilliant colors. We have a lot of brown alpacas so we wanted some color. Well boy did we get gorgeous colors! Burgundy, Sea Foam, Rust, Eggplant just to name a few. We wouldn't trust any other Fiber Mill!
Thank you Linda and team! "

"I picked up my yarn from Painted Sky Fiber Mill and boy-oh-boy the yarn is fantastic! Linda and the team did just what I asked them to do. I wanted my yarn to be 100% Suri. I did not want it blended with any other fiber and I wanted a tighter spin to the yarn. The results exceeded my expectations!"

We are so excited to receive our fiber that has been lovingly, carefully, and professionally processed by Painted Sky Alpaca Farm & Fiber Mill. It's a treasure to have a mill within reasonable driving distance. The staff at Painted Sky Alpaca Farm & Fiber Mill have been so accommodating, educational, supportive, and helpful. They are truly passionate about natural fiber and building the fiber industry in the US. The end result is exceptional service and quality products. They gave us an incredibly in depth tour of their mill, and walked us through the tedious, fascinating, and labor intensive process from start to finish. If you are looking to have fiber processed into roving or finished skeins, or would like an educational tour or farm visit, we at Nimbus Farm whole heartedly recommend giving Painted Sky Alpaca Farm & Fiber Mill a visit.

"The coned yarns that Painted Sky Fiber Mill processed for me from our alpaca fiber was absolutely top rate! I weave with the yarn and the 3-ply sport weight and 3-ply DK weight yarns were excellent as both warp and weft. The consistency of the twist for each yarn weight is identical from cone to cone. I would highly recommend Painted Sky Alpaca Farm & Processing Mill!"

“I am so very pleased with my final product. You ladies do a superb job with my fiber every year. I have gotten all of my yarn processed here for the last 4 years. The expertise and creativity the two sisters possess produces the finest product I have ever seen. It is like Christmas morning when I pick it up. I cannot wait to share it with my customers and work with it as well. I had several ideas coming to mind on my ride home. Thank you so much. See you in a few months after the next shearing and skirting.”

Welcome to Painted Sky Fiber Mill

Painted Sky Fiber Mill is a family owned and operated fiber mill located on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Maryland. We offer total fiber processing services for all types of natural fibers including Alpaca (Huacaya & Suri), Wool, Llama, Angora, Pygora and more. Services include tumbling, washing, dyeing, blending, picking, separating/dehairing, carding, draw frame, spinning, plying, coning, steaming, and skeining. Our goal is to make the highest quality yarns, rovings or batts from each and every fleece.

We'll process your individual fleeces in their natural colors or offer you ideas on creating some unique color blends by combining multiple fleeces together with ribbon, heather or barber pole blending options.

Looking for something to set your yarns apart from your competition?
Take a look at some the of the beautiful color blends we've created for our customers such as black fiber blended with red bamboo or merino, black fiber blended with turquoise merino, gray fiber with jade or a mulberry merino and lots more. The finished yarns are absolutely beautiful and the color combinations are endless.

Want something a little different than your traditional fawn and brown yarns?
Try over dyeing your fawn and brown fleeces to create some unique and interesting colors. Each fleece takes the dye differently so no two fleeces will look the exact same.  We cannot guarantee the final dyed color when overdyeing color fleeces.

Not sure what yarns to make?
No problem. We'll make suggestions on the best color combinations, blending options and yarn weights based on the fiber characteristics of each fleece.  Stop by for visit,  give us a call or send an email with any questions and we'll be happy to discuss  with you.

We require fleeces to be skirted before sending to the fiber mill.
Fleeces should be skirted before sending to the fiber mill. We only offer skirting services for fleeces with very light vegetable matter. Skirting fleeces will add additional processing time and costs to your order. We will not skirt cria fleeces (skirting cria fleeces is an act of love) or fleeces containing heavy vegetable matter. They will be returned to owner at owner's expense or disposed of.

Have a question or need additional information regarding our fiber processing services? Feel free to contact Linda Dickinson @ 410-708-2212.

"On a recent  weekend getaway to Chesapeake City, my husband and I took a little trip out to Earleville because I just HAD to see the alpacas! Boy were we glad we did. What a unique and special experience.  The owners were warm, inviting, knowledgeable and their passion for what they do is more than evident. The alpacas at this farm are not just cared for... they are loved as family." After learning a ton about these adorable creatures ......
